Every Community Needs a Bakery.
Kyle and Sharon Metzger love their community. When they moved to Huntington, IN several years ago, they committed to calling it home. While they’ve seen bakeries and businesses come and go in the downtown area, the Metzgers are excited about the momentum and growth they’re seeing there now.
The Metzgers are applying their years of experience working in the nonprofit sector to open Bear & Beak Bakery in the heart of downtown Huntington. Their skills complement each other deliciously. Kyle has spent years honing his home-baked breads. He also loves numbers, discipline, and a good business plan. Sharon creates beautiful cakes and cupcakes and plans to manage their storefront full-time beginning in May.
Together, they envision a thriving gathering place where people can come enjoy a cup of coffee, baked goods, and one another. When they saw a local bakery recently go out of business, they knew now was the time to fill a need and fulfill their dream of working together.
Right now, they’re making a plan for lasting success. They will use their $500 award to ready their space and purchase a commercial-grade mixer. As they open, they will continue to pour their hearts and determination into their passion for baking and their community.
