THE IDEA:
A line of natural soaps and bath products
Amy DeLap of Kiss My Grass Soapery is a familiar face in the Fort Wayne farmers market scene and beyond.
She’s built a cult following over the years, selling luxury soaps, lotion, lip butters, bath bombs and men’s skincare products at Northeast Indiana venues and, more recently, in adjacent states. After proven success, she’s looking to embark on the next phase of her business journey.
For this artisan, it means expanding her product line by adding liquid soaps and bath salts. Set foot in her charming Main Street shop and you’re met with a friendly greeting and pleasant aroma, a bouquet of fresh and clean scents. You can also find wares from other local artisans, such as pottery, jewelry and furniture. Amy is community-minded and has formed bonds with a growing list of vendors who carry her products.

It’s clear that her winning combination of quality, personable nature and vision have put her on the map. However, in looking at what’s next, she’s recently come to terms with the fact that the next growth stage likely means moving her operations.
According to Amy, the 1,400-square-foot shop west of downtown Fort Wayne has served her well since 2020. But she’s reached a point where it’s getting cramped and that could limit growth. She’s determined that it won’t be long before she needs to relocate to a larger brick-and-mortar location.
That’s why, over the next 3-5 years, she hopes to move to a larger space and dedicate more square footage for retail and private and public soapmaking classes. It’s important to her that people learn the centuries-old craft of soapmaking. The grant funds will help her purchase equipment to make bath bombs and shower steamers.
