A trailer that travels from farm-to-farm for on-the-spot chicken butchering services.
Peyton Schrock is a high school student from Shipshewana thinking big in agribusiness.
For much of his life, Peyton has been exposed to agriculture. His father owned a dairy farm, and his grandfather was also in the agricultural space. He was the Vice President of his chapter of Future Farmers of America (FFA) and has participated in 4-H competitions. All of these things helped foster a sense of belonging for Peyton in agriculture.
But Peyton is also an entrepreneur at heart.
His original idea for a mobile chicken processing unit came from his hometown: Shipshewana has a robust Amish community who often face more obstacles when it comes to processing poultry. Peyton’s business cuts out the need for people to travel to a processing plant, making it easier for anyone to raise chickens.
What started out as a convenient way for the Amish community to butcher and package their chickens turned into a business idea with many avenues to market. All of these avenues are driven by two things: convenience and the general desire for organically raised and humanely butchered chickens.
But Peyton has a greater goal. Although his business will help many markets easily raise and process healthy meat, Peyton would eventually like to raise his own poultry and sell them to grocery stores.

Student Wins LaGrange Entrepreneur Competition
A student from Westview High School in Topeka has taken home the top prize in the third annual Launch LaGrange County Entrepreneur Competition. Peyton Schrock won a $5,000 startup grant for his venture, Schrock Mobile Poultry Butchering and Processing.

Schrock had the top entry out of six teams of students competing in this year’s Launch LaGrange County Entrepreneur Competition sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, Community Foundation and Economic Development Corp. of LaGrange County. As the winner, he received a $5,000 startup grant, scholarship offers from three area colleges, and $150 cash.
Student businesses build on LaGrange County’s success
What does it take to start a new business in LaGrange County? The LaGrange County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) decided to give students the chance to find out with an annual contest, Launch LaGrange.
About to start its fourth year, the Launch LaGrange program gives high school students the opportunity to design and start their own businesses. It’s a county-wide competition that includes students from all three public high schools and Howe Military Academy.

Students, parents, business and community leaders, elected officials and members of the public gathered at Westview High School on Wednesday evening for the 3rd Annual Launch LaGrange County Entrepreneur Competition sponsored by the LaGrange County Chamber of Commerce, Community Foundation and Economic Development Corporation. The event featured six teams of students representing Lakeland, Prairie Heights and Westview High Schools, pitching their businesses to a live audience and panel of expert judges.
