Women’s Network has partnered with Amani Family Services for a luncheon titled “Embrace Equity: A Discussion on Cultural Advancement for Women” to highlight multicultural leaders and the impact they are making in our community. On par with the global theme of #EmbraceEquity\, we believe that everyone has the power to drive change from grassroots action to wide-scale momentum. Join us for an intimate conversation about what we can do to create a more inclusive community that supports continued growth and belonging! \nMeet Our Panelists: \n         \n\nFlora Barron\, Owner & Founder\, Flora & Lily’s Mexican Kitchen and Kanela Blended Drinks |  Flora Barron and her husband immigrated from Mexico to Fort Wayne\, Indiana in 1993.  She worked various entry level jobs\, from cleaning apartments to factory work\, all while earning a Bachelor’s degree in education and later a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Flora worked for Fort Wayne Community schools for nearly twenty years. In 2017 she and her husband opened their first business in the form of a food truck called Flora and Lily’s Mexican Kitchen. Currently\, Flora dedicates her time managing and promoting their three companies and enjoying their precious grandkids. \nFarah Combs\, Honors Program Director and Senior Lecturer in Arabic\, Purdue University Fort Wayne | Farah is an immigrant and the daughter of Palestinian refugees. She is a Palestinian\, but was born and raised in Kuwait as a “Without”. The “Withouts” are a group of people who do not have an identity of belonging to a country or a homeland. Her identity / lack of identity is the primary reason she immigrated to America as a young adult. Not knowing the language or the culture in America\, she was able to persevere and push through to build an identity. She currently teaches all levels of the Arabic language at PFW and International Communications.\nInes Etheridge\, Loss Mitigation Specialist\, PNC Bank | In addition to her role at PNC\, Ines serves as a Community Advisory Board member for Amani Family Services. She immigrated to Fort Wayne in 1996 as a war refugee from Sarajevo\, Bosnia. Ines graduated from North Side High School and received her bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Purdue University Fort Wayne.\nMalak Heiny\, City Attorney\, City of Fort Wayne | Malak Heiny was appointed by Mayor Henry as the City Attorney in 2022. Since 2013\, Malak has served as associate city attorney for the City of Fort Wayne. She has been instrumental in providing leadership and direction on legal matters. Prior to her service with the City\, Malak was a judicial law clerk for Indiana Court of Appeals Judge Patricia A. Riley. Malak holds a law degree from IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law. She is first generation Arab American and lifelong resident of Fort Wayne. Malak is a graduate of South Side High School and Indiana University\, Bloomington. Malak is on the Amani Family Services Board and the Allen County Bar Association Board.\nNikki Quintana\, Executive Director\, Fort Wayne Metropolitan Human Relations Commission | Nikki is responsible for representing the Commission\, directing the staff\, and overseeing operations of the civil rights agency to eliminate unlawful discrimination. She is dedicated to promoting an environment of inclusivity and acceptance within the City of Fort Wayne. Nikki has trained and spoken on civil rights and discrimination at the local\, state\, and national level. She is sought after for advice in case management\, employment discrimination\, diversity and inclusion\, and fair housing. Nikki holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Saint Francis and a Juris Doctorate from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. In 2018\, she was named “Up and Coming Lawyer” by Indiana Lawyer. and in 2020\, she was named in Greater Fort Wayne Business Weekly’s Forty Under 40. In 2022\, Nikki was an inaugural recipient of the Indiana Latino Institute Elevated Latinos Under 40 award. SUMMARY:Elevate Nexus: Spring 2023 Regional Pitch Applications Due
DESCRIPTION:Elevate Nexus includes programming and funding for higher education institutions\, communities and the entrepreneurs they engage. \nThe Nexus Pitch Competition is comprised of regional Pre-Seed and Seed competitions held twice throughout the year\, followed by a statewide competition comprised of regional Nexus winners. \nFollowing each application acceptance period\, applications will be reviewed\, and finalists will be selected. All applicants will be notified the status of their application once decisions have been made. At that time\, finalists will be notified exactly how many minutes they will have to present their pitch deck and accept questions from judges. Finalists will be notified with a cutoff date to make updates to their pitch deck prior to presenting. Updates though must remain within the application guidelines.

DESCRIPTION:Build Institute Entrepreneur Education\n\nThe Build Entrepreneur Education Program is a nine-week basic business startup course for early-stage entrepreneurs. We assist you in identifying and honing strengths and developing meaningful connections with like-minded individuals and other Entrepreneur Support Organizations. \nClasses are led by trained facilitators and cover the basics of starting a business—from establishing an entity to financial literacy\, market research to cash flow\, loan types to cost-benefit analyses\, and more. We bring in Subject matter experts such as lawyers\, accountants\, bankers\, marketing professionals\, and more\, to cover the different business topics and aid with questions. \nEach class has a minimum of 10 participants who meet in person with an option to participate via zoom once a week for three hours throughout the nine weeks. This program is designed for early-stage and growing entrepreneurs who are ready to start\, grow or restart their businesses. How is COVID-19 impacting investment decisions? \nOur Northeast Indiana panel featuring Dan Meek\, Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Elevate Ventures; Nick Arnett\, Principal at 1517; and Ben Pidgeon\, Executive Director at VisionTech Partners will discuss what they look for when evaluating a company and how important things like team\, market-fit\, market size\, valuation and others play a key role in their process. \n\n\n\nPanelists:\nDan Meek \nDan Meek serves as an Elevate Ventures Entrepreneur-in-Residence for Northeast Indiana. He most recently served as President of Seneca Business Ventures\, a commercialization and innovation consultancy. Prior to that Meek was Vice President of Venture Development at Rev1 Ventures. His background has been focused on commercialization\, early stage investments\, and new ventures. Dan is based in Fort Wayne\, Indiana. \nNick Arnett \nNick Arnett is a Principal at 1517 Fund\, a San Francisco-based early stage fund that invests in companies led by young founders. Nick founded and serves on the board of WayPaver Foundation\, a nonprofit dedicated to addressing humanity’s greatest challenges by enabling lunar settlement. Prior to his work with WayPaver\, Nick worked at the Thiel Foundation where he led the growth and development of their community of young visionaries for the Thiel Fellowship program. In lieu of going to college\, Nick started a nonprofit at age 18 that studied the development of entrepreneurial ecosystems in mid-sized cities throughout the United States. He resides in Fort Wayne\, Indiana. \nBen Pidgeon \nBen joined VisionTech in 2016 as the organization’s first executive director and is charged with expanding VisionTech’s role in Indiana and across the Midwest supporting startups\, innovation\, commercialization\, and job creation. Each year\, he and his screening committee review up to 400 startups\, selecting 12 to 15 to “pitch” to VisionTech’s network of 130 +/- accredited angel investors. Under Ben’s leadership VisionTech Angels has expanded to six chapters: Bloomington\, Fort Wayne\, Indianapolis\, Lafayette\, Dayton\, OH; and a physician-only group\, AngelBOM. VisionTech’s investment portfolio stands at 34 companies\, many of which are headquartered in Indiana. Prior to joining VisionTech\, Ben spent 15 years in the banking industry and is a former president and board member of the Venture Club of Indiana. A native of West Lafayette\, IN\, Ben earned a BS in Economics from Purdue University and a Master’s of Business Administration from the IU Kelley School of Business.
